Our Brains Are Growing

At our school we have a Growth Mindset initiative.  If you want to know more about growth mindset, click here.

Our literacy coach, Mrs. Going, took a few days to come and talk with us about our brains.

She reminded us about parts of the brain and that an adult brain weighs three pounds!  We got to see what that felt like by passing around a milk jug filled with water.

Next we learned about how when we learn something new and make mistakes, the neurons in our brains get stronger.
When we start to learn something new, our neural connection is weak.

The more we practice, try, and make mistakes, the stronger those neural connections become.

Until we have a super strong neural connection!  Room 408 doesn't give up when things get hard!
We even got to see real neurons connecting on a brain scan.

What skill is hard for you that you are working on?

  1. This was so much fun learning about the brain together! I still have so much to learn about the brain! I am going to be like you guys and keep learning and making my neurons grow stronger! Can't wait to hear more about how you guys are making your neurons stronger!
