Space Inquiry Investigation Stage

As we neared the end of our Immersion Stage, we began to plan out our Space Research Clubs. We reflected on which space topics still intrigued us and signed up for specific groups.
The results are in!

We started our Investigation Stage right away. This stage is different, because we are now searching for information about our specific research club topic, as well as trying to find answers to lingering questions.

The Black Hole Research Club

The Moon & Astronauts Research Club

The Galaxies & Nebulas Research Club

The Planets Research Club

The Sun & Stars Research Club

We also used our iPads and Google Classroom to use technology to research our topics in this stage!

How many feet?

We have been working on making estimates and then checking our estimates. In Math Workshop, we read the book How Big is a Foot?

The story was about a King who has a special bed made for his Queen's birthday. The King measured out how tall and wide he needed the bed by using his feet. By the time the carpenter's tiny apprentice made the bed, measuring with his tiny feet, the bed did not fit the Queen!

We made estimates about how many "teacher feet" long a jump rope was. Then we got our actual measurement: it was 10 teacher steps long. Then we estimated and measured with different student feet. Some were quite different!
