Learning Mural Day!

It's our first school day back together in November. That means we reflect on all the learning we did in October. Once again, we could hardly fit all our ideas on our easel!

We collaborated to create representations of our learning to put on our October learning mural.

Our First Learning Mural!

On the first school day of each new month, we will reflect on our learning from the previous month.

Our brains are growing more than we realize!

First, when we do a learning mural, we brainstorm all the ways that our brains grew in the last month.  In this case, this is our brainstorm list of all the ways our brains grew in September:
We were amazed to see how much learning we have already done in just 21 days!!!

Next, we chose a topic to create, and invited someone to collaborate with us. We talked about our plan, first.

Then we work on that one topic and collaborate to create a representation of that learning, using the materials in our classroom.

We made a label to add to our projects to make our learning clear.

When we finished one project, we crossed that off the list and chose a new one.

We are going to watch a few short ant videos--even ants collaborate to get work done!

What has been your favorite part of learning so far this year?

February Learning Mural

Once again, Learning Mural Day is here!
Here is our brainstormed list of everything we learned about in February.

We always practice kindness, acceptance, and good manners when we decide who will work on what topic.  Everyone's name is on a stick in a bag, and we pick a stick.  Whoever is picked gets to pick a topic and asks the class, "Who would like to collaborate with me on _____?" Then they invite someone who has their hand raised by asking, "_____ will you please collaborate with me?"  If no one raises their hand, they still invite someone and we have discussed that the only correct answer is, "Yes."
Then off we go to create a representation of each topic!

When we are finished with our project, we lay it on the learning mural but do not glue it down.
Then we go to the board, erase the topic we represented and choose a new one.

Once we are finished, I take about 15 minutes after school to arrange and glue down all the projects, making sure they all fit!

Learning Mural Day!

Our first day back after Winter Break is our first school day in January, which means it's Learning Mural Day! Room 408 is now familiar with the structure of learning murals and is getting so good at collaborating on these special days.
Here is our brainstorm for reflecting on our 15 days of learning in December.
We invited partners to collaborate with us and started creating representations of our learning.

Once we were finished with one, we chose another one.  Today we noticed that we were really good at taking turns, sharing the work, and compromising!
