Friendship Day & Valentine's Day

It was challenging to try and get all four of our LEADS classes together for a Friendship Day celebration, so we had a quick meeting and then we all contributed projects to a Friendship mural.

We started with a song from Kindergarten about how love grows:

Then, 2nd grade sang us a song about friendship and shared the friendship pictures that they made.

After our quick meeting, we worked with Kindergarten to create hearts for our Friendship Day mural.

We ended our day passing out valentines, looking through them all, and reading them.  The ones with puns really got us laughing!

Here is the finished Friendship Day mural:

Happy Valentine's Day!

1st Grade Board Report

This month first grade was in charge of the student board report for the monthly LEADS board meeting.  We had just finished our space inquiry, so we decided to have Lincoln & Maddin present their information about Space Junk.

The LEADS board members learned all about comets, meteors, asteroids, and space garbage!

Great job, Lincoln & Maddin!

Uncle Wolf Leaves Us 100 Cookies!

On the 100th Day of School we read the book Wolf's Chicken Stew by Keiko Kasza.
The book is about a wolf who has a plan to fatten up a chicken for his dinner.  He leaves food on her doorstep to fatten her up--100 pancakes, a cake weighing 100 pounds, 100 doughnuts--but eventually he is found out and joins the chicken and her 100 hungry little chicks for dinner.  On the last page the wolf contemplates leaving 100 scrumptious cookies on their doorstep.

That afternoon we heard a knock on our door and look what we found!

We even got a note from Uncle Wolf!

We ended up having  a great afternoon trying to figure out how many cookies there really were and how many cookies each of us would get if there was really 100 cookies.  We figured out that there were ten plates of ten cookies, which really was 100!

We also figured out that each of us would get 5 cookies, if we split it evenly (and of course Mrs. Henning gets cookies, too!).

Those cookies were SCRUMPTIOUS!!!

Luckily we found out that Uncle Wolf didn't leave us the cookies...Danica's mom made them! Thank you!

100th Day of School!

We had so much fun on our 100th day of school!  We chose from lots of stations:

Some of the favorite stations were trying to fit 100 drops of water on a penny, seeing if they can get to the middle of a tootsie pop in 100 licks, and making 100 day glasses.
Here is a video of all the fun we had!

100 Collections

To prepare for our 100th Day of School we read the book 100th Day Worries by Marjorie Cuyler.

We brought in our own collections of 100 things.  We were surprised that some collections didn't look like 100 because the items were so small!

Riley went above and beyond with his 100 Legos!  "Yay 100 Days"
