A Rare Sunny Day: We Can Do a Shadow Inquiry!

Today we spent our whole day doing science and investigating light and shadows at different times of the day.  I knew this might be the last sunny day before we get our ice and snow on Thursday and Friday.  :(
We went outside four times on this beautifully sunny day to record shadows.

We marked a specific spot to record all day long.  We held a popsicle stick on that spot and traced the shadow with sidewalk chalk.

We noticed how the shadow changed each time we recorded the data.  Maddy even started wondering about connecting the experiment to our schema and learning....she remarked, "I think this is like a clock!"  I'm thinking it's time to further our inquiry on time!

We also took pictures of our shadows.

When we got back inside the classroom we used the Book Creator app to record the time, a shadow photo, and a sentence each time we did our observation.
When we have revised and edited our books on Book Creator, we will be able to export them to our ibooks bookshelf and we can read each other's books!  We will even be able to email the book for others to read.

Tomorrow we will be studying our data and figure out, explain, and record why the shadows changed throughout the day.

What was most surprising about your shadow observations?
